F.A.I.R. Testing
We have been busy this week administering the new F.A.I.R. (Florida Assessment for Instruction in Reading) assessment. Developed by the Florida Center for Reading Research in collaboration with Just Read, Florida!, this new assessment system will provide teachers screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring information that is essential to guiding instruction. The students are administered the test individually and answers are recorded on the computer. The test involves word reading that places them in a particular reading passage. Comprehension and Vocabulary are also tested. Some students may then be given subsections of a Targeted Diagnostic Inventory. This inventory includes Letter Names and Sound Knowledge, Phonemic Awareness, and Word Building. The assessment also includes the ability to monitor progress in targeted areas on the computer which will be valuable information when planning interventions.
