Still Learning!!

The students absolutely have loved our measurement unit in math. They especially loved using the balance scales. In the pictures below the students worked together to find more than one type of measurement for a variety of objects. They measured weight (in cubes), length and capacity.

3 More Days !!

We have been counting down the last 8 days of school by popping a balloon each day. The great part is there is a special note inside each balloon! Some of the notes have said "lunch bunch and movie", "choose your seat for the day" and "Popsicles".....I wonder what today's balloon will say??

Field Trip Fun!

Well...we've waited a while for a field trip this year, but today was finally the day. The firemen at Station 30 were soooooo wonderful! They told us about fire safety, let us tour their living quarters and showed us all the 'bells and whistles' on the hook and ladder truck. They even let Mr. Costello operated the ladder and Mr. Weaver climbed up! We had a yummy lunch at the park and some play time...then it was on to the theater to watch 'Chimpanzee'...what a great day!

Reading Buddies!

We have some new friends in Mrs. Pevy's third grade class! Last week Mrs. Pevy's third grade class took the FCAT for the first time. Our class helped support them throughout the week with letters of encouragement, banners and treats. On Friday we invited Mrs. Pevy's class over to visit....they brought thank you letters to our class and sat and listened to the students read. The students seemed to have such a good time, that we decided we would continue these get togethers until the end of the year.

Five In A Row

In this math game, the students had to draw three number cards and decide which two cards they would add together. The object was to get one row or column filled. The students had to find all three combinations possible and choose the one to help them fill their gameboard.

Caterpillars Everywhere!!

This is the time of the year that Parkwood gets taken over by these caterpillars. They are crawling down the hall, coming in the classroom, and of course hanging out on the playground like this little guy that Sierra caught....the students are crazy about them!

Amazing Artists!

Go Fish!

This week the students played a math game similar to one they may have played at home. In Tens Go Fish, the students must make combinations of 10 with two cards. They must ask their partner for the 'missing addend' to put with a card they are holding to make a combination of 10. By the end of this math unit, the students will be using a variety of strategies to solve two digit addition and subtraction problems.
