In this story, Ordinary Mary learns that how her one small act of kindness affects so many people.
2D Shapes
In our geometry unit the students have been exploring the attributes of different two dimensional shapes. They began filling designs using different 2D shapes. They had to count and record the shapes used. The students learned that shapes can be decomposed into different shapes. A hexagon can be made using 2 trapezoids or 6 triangles. They then composed the same design three times using different combinations of shapes. Finally they tried to fill a design using a few shapes and then using a larger number of shapes.

Literacy Week
Last week the students at Parkwood celebrated Literacy Week by participating in a variety of activities. On Monday, we joined other students throughout the state to read for a total of a million minutes! On Tuesday the students wore their hats to school as they gave "hats off to literacy". Wednesday the students "scored with books" and wore their favorite team jersey. Thursday was "Bananas about Books"...we enjoyed bananas for breakfast, had a book swap and enjoyed a visit from some guest readers from Arlington Middle School.
