Animals Protect Themselves Too!!

In science we have been identifying and discussing the beneficial and harmful properties of the Sun. We have learned that it is important to wear sunscreen, hats and sunglasses to protect ourselves from the Suns harmful rays. Click here to play a game that shows how animals in the wild and at the zoo protect themselves from the Sun too.

Composing and Decomposing 2D Shapes

In this activity the students filled in several designs using the 2D pattern blocks. By filling in the same design several different ways they showed that they understood that solid figures can be combined to make other solid figures.

Sorting 2D Shapes

The students worked together and individually to create shape posters. They had to sort a set of 2D shapes based on the number and length or the sides and by the number of vertices.

String Games

I wanted to share these pictures from our time with Coach on a very cold day in December. The students had a blast playing string games. So, on one of those days when they are bored and you want an inexpensive way to entertain them ...just grab some string!
You can google "string games" and "Cat's cradle" and come up with sites that give pretty good directions, or check out a book from the library on string games. Click here for one link.
