Sourcebook Project

Don't forget that the writing sourcebook project is due Friday, September 3rd. Remember, you can include photographs, stickers, magazine pictures...anything that can be glued or taped down and is flat. I will put it in a page protector in the front of their sourcebooks. These will be helpful to your child when thinking of topics to write about. Below are a couple of great examples of ones that have already been returned.

First Week!

Well we made it through our first week! The class has been doing a wonderful job at picking up on the rituals and routines of first grade. I am so proud of them! Thank you to who came to Open House Thursday night. I wish more parents had attended, I think that the parents who came left with a little clearer idea of what goes on in our classroom and what is expected of their child this year. Take a look at the pictures above that show the students busy during Literacy Skills Block, Readers Workshop, Writers Workshop and Math Workshop. Remember, I can't include photos of your child until the photo/DVD permission slip is returned!

It was wonderful to meet several of you Friday at Orientation. Don't forget to bring in your supplies as soon as possible. On Monday the students will come home with some paperwork that needs to be completed and returned to the school. It is important that you contact me and the office when any of your phone numbers change.

Our lunch time is from 11:00 - 11:30. Please make sure that your child has lunch money or a lunchbox daily. If they were a Duval County student last year then their free or reduced status will remain in effect for one month. However, everyone must complete a new lunch application each year.

Your child will have homework every night, Monday through Thursday, beginning Day 1. Along with the assigned homework they are expected to be reading or being read to , nightly.

Please make plans now to attend Open House on Thursday, August 26th from 6:00-7:00pm.
