Day and Night

In Science we are studying the differences between the day sky and the night sky. We are also learning about the importance of the Sun and also how we must protect ourselves from it's harmful rays. The students drew pictures of the day sky and the night sky.
Last week we began functional writing in Writer's Workshop. After listing our ingredients, materials and steps on how to make an ice cream sundae, we followed our instructions and made a delicious treat. In this genre the students need to list necessary materials and instructions that will inform others on how to "do something" that they are good at.

Picture Lady

We are so excited that the Picture Lady is back! The first grade classes are so fortunate to have Mrs. Severson come visit once a month and share her knowledge of art. This week we learned about the artist Winslow Homer. Mrs. Severson shared a print of his painting, The Gulf Stream. We also learned about different painting mediums and techniques.

Guest Reader

We were very excited to have one of our students from last year come and read to our class. It is always exciting as a teacher to see how our students have grown as readers.
